Soccer:Everton have confirmed they will appeal Darron Gibson’s red card against West Ham on Saturday. The Republic of Ireland midfielder was dismissed by referee Anthony Taylor for a challenge on Mark Noble in Everton’s 2-1 win at Upton Park

The game also saw Hammers striker Carlton Cole sent off for a challenge on Leighton Baines and the London club will also appeal the decision handed down to their player.

The FA have confirmed the relevant paperwork has been submitted by the 1pm deadline, meaning Gibson will be able to play in the St Stephen’s Day match against Wigan Athletic, with the case due to be heard on December 27th.

Speaking before the club announced their appeal manager David Moyes reiterated his belief that Taylor had made a mistake.

“Yeah, we’ll give it a go,” he said in relation to the appeal. “We think there’s a real reason to ask the FA to relook at it.”
