Newcastle United have rejected a £10m (€11.7m) bid from Arsenal for the midfielder Yohan Cabaye.
The 27-year-old was linked with a move to the Emirates last summer but no deal materialised. The London club made an approach on Sunday but the offer was turned down as Newcastle owner Mike Ashley looks to force up the price.
“On the eve of the game we have received a bid which we deem unacceptable,” Newcastle manager Alan Pardew told Sky Sports after leaving Cabaye out of his squad to face Manchester City this evening. “I have to pick a team to get us a result. The rights and wrongs of it (the bid) other people can have an opinion on. I know what my opinion is.”
It is understood the club want nearer £20m (€23.5m) for Cabaye, who has become a key player for Newcastle since joining two years ago and who still has three years remaining on his contract.
