Soccer: Stephen Kenny has been confirmed as the new manager of Dundalk, less than three months after he was dismissed by Shamrock Rovers.

The 41-year-old former Bohemians, Derry City and Dunfermline boss finalised terms on a two-year contract with the Oriel Park outfit this evening.

“As a club, we are thrilled to welcome Stephen Kenny as our new first-team manager," club director Ciarán Bond said tonight. "Stephen was our number one target from when we began the search for a new manager and we are delighted to be able to get him on board.”

Dundalk recently retained their Premier Division status by beating Waterford United in the promotion/relegation play-offs. In common with most other clubs, however, most of last season’s squad is now out of contract.

Shane Robinson and Shane McFaul have both returned to Irish clubs after spells with FC Haka in Finland, with the pair signing for Rovers and St Patrick’s Athletic respectively.
