Downing all a-Twitter over questions
As the Daily Mirror put it last week, Liverpool’s decision to subject Stewart Downing to a Twitter Q&A was “perhaps not carefully thought out”, in light of the fact that the fella has been on the receiving end of dog’s abuse since failing to score once or provide a single assist in his first season with the club. Mind you, this season has been a whole heap better, and while Downing might not yet be hailed as the new, say, John Barnes by the Liverpool faithful, he’s been a bit more useful of late.
So, did his Twitter questioners take that improvement in to account?
The gist: “Are you the only professional footballer to be neither footed?”; “Which Premier League bench is the comfiest?”; “So you left Aston Villa for Champions League football. How's that working out for you?”; “In 2009 Pogatetz said you would eventually join a top 4 club. Do you think that will ever happen?”; “If you were a footballer, what would your preferred position be?”.
And: “Hi Stewart. When did you realise you were going to be a professional footballer? And when do you intend to start being one?” That went well.
