Saints soar over Eagles as UCC Demons get narrow victory

DCU Saints produced a stunning display on Saturday night in the SuperLeague to defeat league leaders UL Eagles in Dublin.

Saints, league finalists a season ago, have got off to a slow start this season but were in rare form Saturday night as they secured a surprisingly comfortable 13 point win over Eagles, 76-63.

Yesterday, second placed UCC Demons took full advantage of Eagle’s loss, narrowly beating UCD Marian at the Mardyke Arena. The win leaves Demons level with UL Eagles on losses, both having suffered two so far and sets up a thrilling post-Christmas struggle for the title.

In the other two Nivea For Men’s SuperLeague there was no shortage of drama as first Moycullen outlasted Dublin Inter in a nerve-wracking overtime contest before Bord Gáis Neptune snatched a two-point victory away from Killester.

Meanwhile the Nivea Women’s SuperLeague saw two of the giants of the game, DCU Mercy and UL Huskies, meet in Dublin. Inspired by a highly charged home crowd, Mercy jumped out to a big early lead that at one point stretched to 16 points. However, the Huskies came back to eventually win 69-61.
