Munster’s match against Glasgow moved to Kilmarnock on Friday week

Pro 12 game moved back a day due to unplayable surface at Scotstoun

Munster’s away Pro 12 fixture against Glasgow Warriors has been moved back a day and moved 26 miles down the road to Kilmarnock due to an unplayable surface at Scotstoun Stadium.

Glasgow have been forced to move another match to Rugby Park as the Scotstoun pitch continues to be badly affected by wet weather.

The game was originally scheduled for the Glasgow venue on Saturday February 20th, but will now take place on Friday, February 19th at 7.35pm at Rugby Park, home to Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock.

An option to play the game on the Saturday was ruled out as Kilmarnock host Dundee at 3.0pm that day.

Glasgow have already sold about 6,650 tickets for the league match. The club have not played or trained at Scotstoun for two months and Rugby Park recently hosted their Champions Cup clash with Racing 92.

Warriors managing director Nathan Bombrys said: “It’s really disappointing that we have to move another fixture away from our home at Scotstoun. We apologise for the inconvenience and disruption that this change will cause our supporters.

“Despite ongoing work being carried out on the pitch, the heavy storms continue to flood the pitch, and there is a high risk that it will be unplayable for this fixture.

“As Kilmarnock have a home game on the Saturday and we play the Dragons the following Thursday, our only option was to play the game on the Friday night. However, making an early decision to play this fixture at Rugby Park will hopefully help our supporters with their travel plans.

“We are working with Glasgow Life and Scottish Rugby to get the pitch at Scotstoun playable as soon as possible and we’re also in discussions with Glasgow Life, Scottish Athletics and SportScotland about a long-term solution at Scotstoun, which could involve a 3G pitch.”

Leinster had their game away to Glasgow cancelled in early December due to Storm Desmond and rescheduled for Friday March 18th at the same venue.

Meanwhile, Munster’s Good Friday, March 25th game at home to Zebre at Thomond Park has been pushed back from a 5.15pm kick-off to 7.0pm. The game will be broadcast live on TG4.
