Peter Stringer signs one-year contract extension with Sale Sharks

Scrumhalf: ‘The opportunity to get regular game time has given me a new lease of life’

Former Ireland scrum-half Peter Stringer, 38, is to extend his career for another year with Sale Sharks.

Stringer, who won 98 Test caps during his time at Munster, has enjoyed a new lease of life since joining the Premiership club from Bath last May, initially on a one-year contract.

Sale director of rugby Steve Diamond said: " Peter is a model professional who is incredibly fit and shows no signs of getting old.

“He has brought our backline to life this season. He is a very well respected member of our squad and the younger lads have all benefited from Peter being here.”

Stringer played 230 times for Munster from 1998 to 2013 before going on loan to Saracens and Newcastle and then had a two-year spell at Bath.

“I’m delighted to have agreed a new deal,” Stringer said. “I am loving my rugby at Sale Sharks.

“It’s a great environment and we have some very talented players at the club. The opportunity to get regular game time has given me a new lease of life.”
