Murray escapes ban for striking incident

Munster scrum half will not face any disciplinary action, Matawalu cleared of biting charge

Conor Murray will not face any disciplinary action for striking Glasgow's Niko Matawalu following Munster's fractious win in Scotstoun last Friday night.

Murray, who was cited for the incident in the second half, faced a disciplinary committee in Cardiff this afternoon and although it was agreed an act of foul play had been committed the hearing also ruled Murray’s actions would not have warranted a red card.

As such, the committee imposed no sanction and the scrumhalf will be free to play in Ireland’s upcoming November international series.

Matawalu, who was also cited for allegedly biting Donncha O’Callaghan in a separate incident, was cleared of the allegations later this afternoon.
