Japan head coach Eddie Jones admitted to hospital

The 53-year-old is reportedly showing signs of a stroke

Former Australia coach Eddie Jones has been admitted to hospital in Tokyo after reportedly showing signs of a stroke. The 53-year-old is head coach of the Japan national team and had been preparing his players to face world champions New Zealand on November 2nd.

Japan Rugby Football Union general manager Kensuke Iwabuchi named a 32-man squad on Wednesday, with a statement saying Jones was "forced to miss the press conference through illness".

Former South Africa coach Jake White told the website www.keo.co.za: "He is in intensive care and he currently doesn't have movement on his left side, but he is talking — and typical of Eddie, it's about the challenge of the All Blacks and the subsequent European tour. My understanding is he will be in intensive care for at least the next week."

Jones was appointed as Japan’s head coach last year, with the highlight of his reign so far being a first victory over Wales four months ago.
