Sizing Europe one of nine entries for JNwine.com Champion Chase at Down Royal

Henry De Bronhead’s gelding missed the race last year due to unsuitable ground conditions

Sizing Europe could yet get the chance to make it third time lucky over three miles in Saturday’s €140,000 JNwine.com Champion Chase at Down Royal.

The former two-mile champion chaser is one of nine entries remaining in the Irish weekend highlight after yesterday’s forfeit stage, alongside other established stars and some high-class novices.

The latter group includes the RSA winner Lord Windermere, who is also in the Grade Two Powers Irish Whiskey Chase over two and a half miles on the same card, and Mount Benbulben who graduated to Grade One class at the Punchestown Festival in April.

The last two winners of the race, Quito De La Roque and Kauto Stone, are both entered again but plenty interest will focus on Sizing Europe’s third attempt to win the race.

Runner-up to Kauto Star in 2010, and Quito De La Roque a year later, Sizing Europe missed the race last year due to unsuitable ground conditions but got the current campaign off to a winning start when successfully reappearing at Gowran Park earlier this month.
