Progress facile for Christians

CBC Cork 58 Midleton College 3:Alex Penney, son of Munster coach, Rob, scored one of CBC Cork’s 10 tries in their runaway win over Midleton College in the preliminary round of the Munster Schools Senior Cup in a mudbath at Towns Park yesterday.

The tall flanker touched down for his side’s third try after 13 minutes to help Christians establish a commanding 17-3 lead following the opening score from Rory Bourke and a second from Rory Slater.

Three more arrived before the break, Chris McAuliffe and Joe Dowling (2) getting on the scoresheet for a 32-3 lead. Luke Deane kicked Midleton’s lone penalty.

Christians added four tries in the second half, Seán Gill, Ryan Foley, Shane McAuliffe and Chris O’Neill, who kicked four conversions, obliging, to set up a first-round tie against Castletroy College in Limerick in a fortnight.
