David Ferrer sets up Paris final with Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic will meet David Ferrer in the Paris Masters final on Sunday after the defending champion upset his fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal.

World number one Nadal had beaten Ferrer nine times in a row but the third seed turned the tables to win 6-3 7-5.

It looked like Ferrer’s chance might have gone when he was broken while serving for the match at 5-4 but he broke Nadal again and took his second chance to clinch a famous victory.

Twelve months ago Ferrer beat Jerzy Janowicz to win his first Masters title in the French capital.

Djokovic had to fight back from a set and a break down to defeat Roger Federer 4-6 6-3 6-2 - a result that preserves his slim hopes of overtaking Nadal to finish the year as world number one.

It was the first meeting of the year between Djokovic and Federer but they will play each other again on Tuesday after they were drawn in the same group at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London.

Federer has shown glimpses of his best form of what has been a difficult year over the past two weeks, and he told atpworldtour.com: “I was pretty happy with my level of play.

“I wish I could have kept it up for a bit longer and put him under pressure, but Novak battled well to stay in the match.

“I had my chances in the second and third sets. I’m disappointed right now but overall it was a good week for me.”
