Andy Murray drawn against Nick Kyrgios in US Open

Andy Murray has been drawn against the bad boy of tennis Nick Kyrgios in the first round of next week's US Open.

The Australian is currently facing a one-month ban from the tour should he breach behavioural standards in the next six months.

Kyrgios was fined £6,350 by the ATP for taunting Stanislas Wawrinka at the Montreal Masters, in which he made an insulting remark about Wawrinka's girlfriend, the tennis player Donna Vekic.

Murray, seeded third, is set to meet Wawrinka in the quarter-finals and then Roger Federer in the semi-finals of the tournament he won at Flushing Meadows in 2012.

The Scot played Kyrgios at both the Australian Open and French Open earlier this year, winning on both occasions without dropping a set.

During the second round tie in Montreal, an on-court microphone picked up Kyrgios telling Wawrinka: “Kokkinakis banged your girlfriend. Sorry to tell you that mate.”

Kyrgios, who had been referring to his fellow Australian and Davis Cup team-mate Thanasi Kokkinakis, later apologised for the remarks on Facebook.

In July he ended his run at Wimbledon with a controversial defeat to Richard Gasquet in which he got a code violation for swearing, hugged a ball boy, rowed with the umpire over whether he was taking too long to change his socks and hurled his racket into the air.
