Morrissey and O'Brien set for final today


TENNIS: John Morrissey will meet Colin O’Brien in the final of the National Indoor Tennis Championships at David Lloyd today. Morrissey defeated Ciarán Fitzgerald 6-3, 6-4 after gaining a decisive break at 4-3 in the first set and broke again early in the second set.

In the other semi-final, Colin O’Brien had a comfortable 6-1, 6-1 victory over Robert Dudley.

The women’s final will be contested by Jane Fennelly and Holly Monahan. Fennelly defeated Karola Bejenaru 6-0, 6-3, 7-5 in the third set in a thrilling match.

Seventeen-year-old Holly Monahan beat Hannah May Morrissey 7-5, 6-1. The first set was very close with some terrific baseline rallies, while Monahan dominated the second.
