Long wait over for famous victory

Connacht League Leitrim 0-9 Mayo 0-8:The year 1994 was a watershed for Leitrim football and it was also the last time they beat Mayo in a competitive fixture.

The home side fully deserved this victory in an absorbing game which provided an exciting climax at Ballinamore yesterday.

Leitrim got off to a dream start scoring five points without reply in the opening quarter.

With four minutes of the match to go the sides were level. Leitrim’s efforts were finally rewarded when Emlyn Mulligan sent over the winning point from a free to register a famous victory.
