Rugby Sevens will be an Olympic sport in 2016 and this year the Ireland Women’s Sevens Team will be competing in the Rugby World Cup Sevens in Moscow. The IRFU are holding screening camps to recruit female athletes for the women’s high performance rugby squad, with a focus on Sevens rugby, and applications are invited.

“2013 is a massive year for the Ireland women’s Sevens squad, having qualified for the Women’s Sevens Rugby World Cup in Moscow in June,” said Ireland women’s Sevens captain Claire Molloy.

Speaking about the screening camps, IRFU director of rugby development and the club game Scott Walker said: “The announcement that Rugby Sevens will be included in the Olympics has created the opportunity for sports women from across Ireland to aspire to international success in an exciting team sport.”
