Jordan Spieth made a huge statement on the opening day of the British Open as he shot a stunning 65 to take the clubhouse lead on five under par.
Former world number one and double-Major champion Spieth came to Royal Birkdale flying under the radar - but he is now the man to beat after an impressive showing on Thursday.
23-year-old Spieth didn't drop a single shot during a his first round - with five birdies giving him a two shot advantage over Ian Poulter, Justin Thomas and US Open champion Brooks Koepka.
It could have been even better for Spieth, who saw a birdie attempt on the 18th slide by the cup.

Elsewhere the Irish contingent on course were treading water, with Shane Lowry one over par through 15.
Padraig Harrington meanwhile, who came to Birkdale in good form after a decent showing in last weekend's Scottish Open, could only manage a three over par 73.
