Feeney’s hat-trick helps Tooreen end ten-year wait

Goals prove key as Ballyhaunis lose title to great rivals

Tooreen 4-10 Ballyhaunis 1-6: Kenny Feeney fired home a hat-trick in a six-minute blinding spell to bury champions Ballyhaunis in the Mayo senior hurling final in Ballyhaunis on Sunday.

The victory ending a losing sequence of ten years since Tooreen last won the title and a six-year losing run against their neighbours and great rivals who were going for six-in-row.

Feeney’s goal spree, established solid half-time platform for Tooreen who were 4-4 to 0-4 ahead at the break.

Ray Larkin had the first goal of the match for Tooreen on 15 minutes.
