Kildare’s Kevin Feely cleared to play against Armagh

Kildare have been handed a massive boost ahead of their Round 4B qualifier against Armagh with Kevin Feely being cleared to play.

The rangy midfielder was set to sit out the encounter against Kieran McGeeney’s team, after picking up his third black card of 2017 in the Leinster final defeat to Dublin. Which triggers a one match ban.

He sought to have two of the three black cards lifted during a CCCC hearing on Thursday night. Feely was unsuccessful in his attempt to have the card received against Dublin turned over, although the 24-year-old Athy clubman did have the black card he received against Clare last March rescinded on appeal.

Feely has been Kildare’s talisman this season, with the former professional soccer playing kicking 0-5 against Dublin and catching four marks in the middle of the park.

Down’s Kevin McKernan also had a successful appeal, as his black card from the Ulster final defeat was rescinded and he is now free to play against Monaghan, which like the Armagh fixture is on July 29th.
