Kerry minors take no prisoners in mauling of Waterford

Ferdia O’Brien and David Clifford starred to set up a semi-final clash with Clare

Kerry 2-21 Waterford 1-2

All Ireland minor champions Kerry spelled out their intentions for the season ahead with a ruthless mauling of Waterford at Fraher Field.

Ferdia O’Brien (2-1), David Clifford (0-5), Sean O’Shea (0-4) and Dara Moynihan (0-3) all starred for Peter Keane’s team to set up a last four clash against Clare on May 11th.

The rampant away team roared 1-13 to 0-1 clear by half time with six different players raising flags. David Clifford kicked the first point and Kerry clocked up eleven after 13 minutes.

Shane O’Meara recorded Waterford’s first point when he converted a free after 22 minutes. The green and gold responded straight away to that concession. Clifford unselfishly laid the ball across for Ferdia O’Brien to rattle the cobwebs.

O’Brien claimed his second only 26 seconds after the restart after he pounced on a defensive error.

Waterford number seven Cathal Curran sent a screamer to the top corner on 43 minutes as a consolation for the home support. The Déise will face either Tipperary or Limerick in the play-offs on April 27.

Clifford swerved over an audacious closing point to finish it off in style.
