Carlow turn the tables on Waterford in second half

Seán Gannon hits three superb points from play in revival

Waterford 0-9 Carlow 0-11

Carlow turned around a five-point half-time deficit to take a spectacular win at Fraher Field against a Waterford side whose hopes of promotion from Division Four may already be over.

Inspired by midfielder Seán Gannon, who kicked three superb points from play, and corner forward Brian Murphy, the visitors stormed Fraher Field in a frantic closing quarter, rifling over six unanswered points.

Waterford, whose first McGrath Cup success in 34 years must already feel like a fading memory, led by 0-7 to 0-2 at the break, and ought to have led by more given the strength of the wind that was gale-like in its ferocity. But Carlow remain unbeaten and will be buoyed by this deserved victory.
