Carey snatches the spoils for Lansdowne in a thriller

All-Ireland League Division 1A Clontarf 18 Lansdowne  20:Sean Carey was the Lansdowne hero as his penalty with the last kick of the game gave the league leaders victory over Clontarf at Castle Avenue.

Lansdowne appeared to be in control of the match until a Tadgh Furlong try with four minutes remaining, in Clontarf's first attack of real note in the second half, looked like ensuring a third successive win for Clontarf.

Clontarf played with a strong wind in the first half and led 13-7 at the break.

Richie Lane scored an early penalty before Lansdowne scored the first try of the game on 16 minutes, captain Ross McCarron scoring under the posts after a nice grubber kick by Craig Ronaldson.

Clontarf hit back with a try three minutes later when right winger Lane scored in the corner after good work by Sam Cronin. Lane added the conversion and a further penalty before half-time.

Lansdowne dominated the second half with the wind. They took the lead after 60 minutes with a terrific rolling maul which was finished by Clive Ross, cousin of Ireland international, Mike. Carey added the conversion from a difficult angle.

Furlong's try looked like giving the home side victory before Carey's dramatic late intervention.
