2 mins – Jerome Garces gives Owen Farrell the chance to open the scoring, penalising Jamie Heaslip for not rolling away in the tackle. 3-0.

20-24 minutes – Gordon D’Arcy inches into the English 22 only for a Farrell tackle to strip him of possession. Two further knock-ons by Mike McCarthy stall any progress.

28 mins – Farrell makes it 6-0 from long range after Heaslip, again, is penalised for being on the wrong side of the England maul.

31 mins – Jonathan Sexton pulls up, with a right hamstring problem, after fly hacking a loose ball. Ronan O’Gara arrives onto the field.

45 mins – Cian Healy’s scrummaging wins Ireland a penalty that sees O’Gara make it 6-3.

48 mins – Seán O’Brien is badly hurt after thundering into three English tacklers. He gets up and carries again but is eventually replaced.

57 mins – James Haskell is sin-binned for stupidly disrupting Ireland’s ruck ball, allowing O’Gara, who cleverly steals a yard, to level it up at 6-6.

63 mins – A clever grubber by Farrell deep into the Irish 22, while cleaned up by Rob Kearney, leads to the penalty that makes it 9-6.

64 mins – Courtney Lawes’ huge hit stops a counter-attacking Kearney, Mike Brown seals off the Irish fullback on the ground and Farrell’s resulting penalty pushes it to 12-6. Haskell returns three minutes later.

70 mins – O’Gara is unable to punish Dylan Hartley’s offside offence as his third penalty drifts right and wide.
