Gosh, that's a question that will get the right-wingers up and out of bed early this morning. A no from me and a no from my Mum too! Paying debt to society and all that. Does my bum look big in all the wrath I can see coming onto this BB over this question?

NEGATIVE. MOST "SEX OFFENDERS" ARE MANIPULATIVE" RECIDIVISTS!
Although I stand on the premise that ALL criminals serve their entire sentences it is especially important that sex offenders be kept out of mainstream society for as long as possible.
Studies have shown and experience has proven almost ALL sex offenders cannot be rehabilitated. Paedophiles are the most likely group of offenders that will re-offend if given the chance and are driven by the delusion that their actions are not actually wrong.
As a parent, (anyone can be a father but only responsible men can be parents), I feel very strongly that violators, whether paedophiles, rapists or pornography collectors should feel the full force of the law and they should be looked upon as dangerous individuals.
OK, all you Liberal, excuse-making bleeding-hearts. Let's hear your teary pleas to let these monsters loose on society.
Rehabilitation? Balderdash. Harsh incarceration is the only effective deterrent against those who commit the most evil atrocities to innocent people. HOO RAH!

Or you could tell them they won't be released unless they do.

Is there a cure ? I'm not qualified to answer this very tough poser ,other than to say we have since 2001 in my Province of Ontario the first sex offender registry in Canada . It requires current address , phone number and physical discription and a must reregistry if they move, within 15 days of prison release and/or move. A $25,000. fine and a one year jail time for failure to register.Does it prevent ... Sadly we presently have an eight yr. old wee girl missing some weeks now..but it does give investigators a leg up to begin with .

Rehabilitation is not a possibility with pedophiles. The cravings don't go away you know. Coping skills can help but just like any addict, there will be relapses.

Why ??? Should murders be offered early release if they take part in rehabilitation programmes in prison?
Should drug dealers be offered early release if they take part in rehabilitation programmes in prison?
How about thieves? Why should sex offenders be treated differently to other offenders ? I'm pretty sure rehabilitation programmes would work just as well with other types of offenders.
Is it possibly because sex offenders are as an overall percentage are more likely to come from outside the lowest sections of society ?

It would depend entirely upon whether the person concerned continues to constitute a threat to themselves and others. That is not something I or anyone but a highly specialised psychiatrist could determine on a case by case basis. In principle I have no especial difficulty with early release programmes subject to the above in any and all cases, not just sex offenders.

You could almost pick an interesting topic from the IT website at random today (e.g. Clinton says Pakistan has gone loco, IMF says Ireland is gaga, Russians to try to stop N. Korea going mental, etc.) and we've been given this question why? Come on Mod - cop on and give us something a bit better to opine on than this rubbish. It's a no from me by the way.
