Women in Irish history?

A chara, – Micheline Sheehy Skeffington (Letters, November 27th) takes exception to the scant mention of women in a book she found about Irish history.

The fact is that the history of Ireland, like any other nation, has been largely shaped by men. Reasons for this anomaly might well be unpalatable, but it is a fact nonetheless.

Any attempt to cover it up represents feminism at its most petty and ironically does a great disservice to the many men and women who fought hard to change the status quo.
