The €170 million refund question

Sir, – Let the €170 million refunds from Irish Water (Home News, July 19th) be donated directly to help relieve the current East African drought.

Irish Water could then use the €10 million required for a refund website to instead develop a system to webcast water quality parameters that are routinely monitored in water treatment plants. Such information would allow customers to get timely indication of the quality of the water supplied, thereby providing some reassurance that their supply is wholesome and clean . . . or otherwise as the case may be. – Yours, etc,

JOHN S HOLMES,

Leenane, Co Galway.
