Spectators and television cameras

Sir, – Louis Hogan (July 30th) fell at the first bend when, writing about the Galway Races, he implied that it is only Irish people who engage in the idiotic practice of "performing" on camera in the background of live reporting on television. It is also a common sight on other channels. In the past week two magicians set up their act directly behind a Sky News reporter at Westminster. At least their turn was far more entertaining than the usual lemmings who react to TV cameras in Ireland and elsewhere. – Yours, etc,
