Sir, – I am fascinated by the similarities between Sinn Féin’s current trajectory and that of Fianna Fáil in its early radical years. They boast a charismatic leader who trails a faint whiff of cordite, just as de Valera did. Fundraising in the US produces the same sniffs from the respectable classes. Can we expect that Sinn Féin will shortly set up a new daily newspaper? I will look forward, with some glee, to when they move into their “mohair suit” stage. – Yours, etc,
