Sir, – Fiona Slevin (May 16th) is wrong to state that an unnamed diplomat was “selling items gifted to him while he was employed by the State as a diplomat”.

Michael Parsons’s article (Home News, May 14th) is clear that the gentleman concerned “was a former official with the United Nations”. He was a UN diplomat who happens to be Irish as opposed to an Irish diplomat and state employee. Therefore the Irish State has no call on the canteen of North Korean cutlery. – Yours, etc,
