RTÉ and Seán Gallagher

Sir, – Fine Gael Minister Leo Varadkar has expressed the opinion that RTÉ has a liberal and left-wing bias. There was a time when many Fine Gael members were striving hard to turn it into an even more liberal party than it then was. The late Declan Costello headed this drive with his policy document Towards a Just Society– one of the defining documents of the party for many years. If Mr Varadkar now sees "liberal" and "left-wing" as a form of denigration, then perhaps the meltdown which Fianna Fáil experienced recently may soon be visited upon Fine Gael. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – In the two and a half years that RTÉ's The Frontlineprogramme has been on the air, I had always believed that the questions raised by the audience were exactly that. Now it seems that the questions raised by the audience have always been questions written for them by The Frontlinestaff themselves. So, my question is: Why was there ever a need at all for an audience to ask questions if The Frontlinestaff could have asked their own questions? I feel like I've been duped by RTÉ. – Yours, etc,
