In and out

Sir, – Blair Noonan suggests a Schrödinger's cat solution to Border problems after Brexit: being in and out of the customs union at the same time (November 14th).

Why not go all the way, with Ireland being simultaneously in and out of the EU?

After all, on arrival from London at Dublin airport we have to produce a passport to prove we are entitled to avail of the common travel area and so are entitled to travel without a passport.

A country that can come up with that, let alone a double Irish with a Dutch sandwich, should have no difficulty in devising a mirage of EU membership. – Yours, etc,
