'Flowergate' kerfuffle blows over

Sir, – It’s a relief that the complaint made by the Taoiseach’s staff about TV3’s political editor Ursula Halligan over an incident at the National Library which has become known as “flowergate” has been resolved (Home News, July 10th).

It appears that both parties would continue to ensure that “open and transparent relations” were maintained. Surely it is also important now that all flower pots in the vicinity of the Taoiseach are kept open and transparent – and are not filled with flowers? – Yours, etc,

PATRICK O’BYRNE,
