Employing retired teachers

Thu, Jun 28, 2012, 01:00

Sir, – I am dismayed that after a year and a half as Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairí Quinn is still approving the appointment of retired teachers as substitute cover in schools and as supervisors and examiners for Leaving and Junior Cert examinations.

There are many qualified teachers who do not have the option of employment at present. No doubt these teachers would be delighted to fill these positions.

How long can the Minister continue to stand over this truly scandalous situation? – Yours, etc,

JAMES O’REILLY,
