Sir, – The AA's Conor Faughnan calls for an analysis of the contribution of family cars to overall transport emissions and says that the Government "should get behind electric vehicles" ("Reducing motorway speeds would be just a 'gesture', says AA", July 20th). Is this in order to give them a push when they are stranded with flat batteries miles from the nearest recharging point? – Yours, etc,
