Dear Diary

Sir, – I haven't laughed out loud for such a long time as I did while reading Frank NcNally's wonderful piece on Keith Jarrett ("Another nail in the coughin' – An Irishman's Diary about Keith Jarrett", November 19th). It's a masterpiece on the tension between an artist and his audience. Memorable writing and a joy to read in these dark days. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Frank McNally’s excellent column reminds me of a wonderful quote by the legendary and colourful concert pianist Arthur Rubenstein, who as he bemoaned the same problems at his performances in his beloved Israel said, “Everywhere in the world, people that have the flu, they go to a doctor. In Tel Aviv, they come to my concerts.” – Yours, etc,
