Chomsky leads the way

Sir, – Prof Mary Corcoran of NUIM recently edited a book in which she called for a role for public intellectuals in Ireland. At the time many wondered what a public intellectual would be like, and what such a person would do.

Denis Staunton’s interview with Noam Chomsky (Home News, April 1st) provides a perfect answer, by example, to both questions. At the grand old age of 84 Chomsky still casts a cold, analytical and critical eye both on affairs internal to the US and affairs around the world. Would that there were more like him! – Yours, etc,
