Challenge over ash cloud costs

Sir, – The headline “Ryanair loses EU ash cloud test case” (Home News, March 23rd) wrongly claimed that Ryanair had lost its EU261 passenger rights test case, which was taken to redress the blatant inequalities and discrimination against airlines, over other competing forms of transport, in relation to the open-ended and unlimited exposure under EU261 passenger rights legislation.

No decision has yet been handed down in this case (as the headline suggested) and, while an opinion was published by the advocate general, it is not binding on the court. – Yours, etc,

Head of Communications,

Ryanair, Dublin Airport,

Co Dublin.
