Aosdána and Palmyra motion

Sir, – I have just read Hugh Linehan's report about the 37th general assembly of Aosdána which was held at the Royal Hospital, Kilmainham on April 27th.

However there was one small omission in his motions report.

At the close of the Aosdána meeting, under any other business, I put forward the following motion which was unanimously adopted by the general assembly: “That Aosdána totally condemns the brutal execution of the renowned archaeologist and keeper of the Palmyra Antiquities Museum, Khaled Al Assad and the wilful destruction of parts of this world-famous and ancient city by the forces of Isis. And furthermore, we extend our sympathy and support to all the victims of violence and displacement in Syria”. – Yours, etc,

MICHAEL HOLOHAN,
