A French comparison

Sir, – Frank Khan (July 31st) and Bernard O’Donnell (August 1st) bemoan the high cost of pharmaceuticals and animal vaccinations in Ireland relative to France. Having just come back from France and paid very reasonable amounts for family meals with drinks, I propose that that the Constitutional Convention debate the merits of becoming an overseas department of France.

We would become a true secular republic with the principles of liberté, égalité, fraternité without the need for endless referendums. We would get to keep the euro with the troika off our backs, lower the retirement age, and increase number of public holidays. – Yours, etc,

JAMES DUNNE,

Ellensborough,
