Flak jacket: leaders get smart parkas
Barack Obama dressed like Steve McQueen? If things get stormy for the world leaders gathering in Aquila, they will be able to don parkas designed by the maker of the movie stars jackets. Belstaff, which also kits out stars like George Clooney and Brad Pitt, has produced a limited-edition black parka for delegates at the summit.
There is also a “parka-chic” version for first ladies, which will be made of leather and nylon but retain the military inspiration.
“Every single jacket is made to measure,” said Manuele Malenotti, whose Italy-based Clothing Co bought Belstaff in 2004. What is more, “Every single jacket is signed by Berlusconi.”
The black mid-thigh jacket features an Italian flag and the G8 logo on the right breast pocket. It is made of a light fabric which is water-resistant and breathes. Belstaff clothing has been used by adventurers such as TE Lawrence and Che Guevara. – (Reuters)
