Mullins enters three at Haydock
BRIAN O'CONNOR
RACING: WILLIE MULLINS could attempt to extend his all-conquering Irish form to Haydock this Saturday in the Betfred Grand National Trial.
The champion trainer has left in three entries, Some Target, Quiscover Fontaine and Uncle Junior, for the three-and-a-half-mile marathon which also sees the Aintree favourite Junior set to line up in the race.
David Pipe’s nine-year-old has completed the rare double of landing prizes at the Cheltenham Festival and Royal Ascot, and has not been seen on the racecourse since running in the last year’s Ascot Stakes at the Royal meeting.
As well as Mullins, the British champion trainer Paul Nicholls is also set to be represented by the top weight Neptune Collonges.
Other interesting possibles include 2009 Grand National winner Mon Mome, Welsh National runner-up Giles Cross and Evan Williams-trained pair Deep Purple and Cappa Bleu.
