McManus's Scrumhalf snaps up world prize

PICTURE PERFECT All-Ireland League photograph lands second prize in World Press Photo contest

RAY McMANUS of Sportsfile has been awarded second prize in the sports singles’ category at the 55th annual World Press Photo contest.

The photograph titled “Scrum half” was taken on February 5th, 2011, at a mud-drenched Anglesea Road, Dublin, and features action from the Ulster Bank All-Ireland League Division 1A clash between Old Belvedere and Blackrock College. The photograph was selected from over 100,000 entries worldwide.

The World Press Photo contest draws entries from professional press photographers, photojournalists and documentary photographers from across the world, with 5,247 photographers from 124 countries.
