Cumann na mBan safe house has contemporary style
D7: €269,950: OAK LODGE at Number 340 North Circular Road is one of the oldest houses in Phibsborough and is believed to have been used as a safe house by Cumann na mBan during the 1916 Rising and the War of Independence.
Guardian Property Asset Management is asking €269,950 for the two-bed townhouse which is one half of a pair of semi-detached houses that have been been noted by Dublin City Council for their historic architectural value.
Among the original features is a hall door with a fan window and the original Oak Lodge nameplate carved into the decorative sconces either side.
The current owners bought the property less than two years ago and have upgraded and modernised it to make it a stylish city pad.
The bedrooms were put at hall level so the most could be made of the loft space above. The main bedroom has a shower en suite and fitted wardrobes and its original timber shutters have been restored. A second double bedroom has fitted wardrobes.
The main bathroom is also at this level. Upstairs there’s a studio-style, open-plan kitchen/living area that’s wired for surround sound and has roof lights, spotlighting and stained walnut floorboards.
The kitchen is fitted with high gloss white units with chrome trims and black polished marble worktops, sleek black tiles and integrated appliances,.
There’s also a study at this level which the agent suggests could be turned into a third bedroom.
To the rear there’s a small courtyard garden.
