‘IT BLAZES – oh jaysus”. The late Martin Dempsey’s Colline had come in a bar too soon in Irish National Opera’s La Bohèmein Cork City Hall as Rodolfo (Edwin FitzGibbon) burned his abandoned playscript in the stove in a vain effort to bring some warmth into the chilly garret of the four Bohemians.
The memory of Martin’s rhyming gaffe always brings a smile when I look back (which is frequently) on the 20-year history of that opera company.
