IN HIS opinion piece (September 19th), Prof Tom Begley of UCD Business School argues that in order to compete successfully, Ireland should offer enormous salaries to academic researchers. Otherwise, he writes, the only knowledge that will exist in the Irish economy is that which "has been left in the dust by other nations".
