Long live the independent bookshop. Noble Beggarman at 28 South William Street, Dublin 2, is a new browser’s delight specialising in books on art, design, photography and architecture.

It takes its name from Yeats’s poem The Municipal Gallery Revisited. Owner Shane Hallahan (pictured) initially planned to set up a bookshop devoted to history and politics but the chance to open in 2006 in the Hugh Lane gallery changed his mind. The shop moved to the RHA gallery in Ely Place, which is still open, as well as the new South William Street flagship. Housed in a listed Georgian building, it takes its inspiration from New York’s famous Strand bookstore and contains a gallery space, a section on rare second-hand books, as well as periodicals and stationery.
