TWO UNDER €12
John Wilson selects two wines for under €12
Domaine de Pellehaut 2007, Vin de pays des Côtes de Gascogne, 12%, €10.50
This is a fail-safe, all-purpose wine that is worth buying by the case load for Christmas. It is low in alcohol, full of fresh but rounded exuberant fruit, and a joy to drink. Perfect for parties, sipping with friends, or with lighter foods, you could serve it with any or all of Domini's canapés. Stockist : Mitchell & Son, IFSC, Sandycove and Rathfarnham
Corbières Le Castelmaure, 2006, 13.5%, €8.95
This has enough ripeness to counter the sweetness in most of Domini's canapés above, while not being too tannic either. From one of the best producers in Corbières, this is amazing value for money. As with the Domaine de Pellehaut above, it would certainly be worth investing in a case or two to cover all eventualities over Christmas. Stockist : Terroirs
