Preparing for the budget

Sir, – Government spokesmen are constantly telling us that they will ensure that the available funds will be distributed as fairly as possible in the forthcoming budget. Does anyone in the country believe this? Could the Ministers and TDs not be more honest and tell us what is really going to happen?

Ordinary taxpayers and social welfare recipients are going to be hammered while the elite within the political and financial sector will enjoy token reductions which will ensure that none of them will feel any fiscal pain.
