Madam, - The Competition Authority tells us that the Government should not ban below cost alcohol sales (The Irish Times, January 31st). But alcohol abuse is a serious problem in our society and the Government must use all means at its disposal to curb it, regardless of how these fit with quixotic economic theories. - Yours, etc,
