Cancer triathlon set for Mullingar
JENNIFER WHOLEY
This year’s Fighting Cancer triathlon, on June 16th in Mullingar, is structured for participants of all fitness levels.
Eric Bates of the organising committee, himself a triathlete and cancer survivor, said: “It’s very manageable, a sprint triathlon, so all the distances are within people’s capability. If they started training now they would have no problem come June 16th to actually take part in it.
“The swim is usually what puts people off; they’re a little bit intimidated by it, which is understandable. We have a huge amount of boat cover in very shallow water. You’re going to be well looked after.”
The race will consist of a 750 metre swim, a 20km cycle and a 5m run. The triathlon also offers training guides on its website and helpful how-to videos on YouTube.
